Taking the stress out of holiday request rejection

One of the worst parts of line management or HR processes is having to reject employee holiday requests. Whether that be due to minimum staffing levels, the need for an employee to be in as they're a registered health and safety contact or simply because the employee has missed the minimum notice period for booking holidays.

With a paper and spreadsheet system, you're less likely to stick to processes in place such as minimum notice period for bookings, or even minimum staffing levels, as employees often plead their case face to face, leading to an element of guilt laying on a managers shoulders.

Minimum staffing levels

We've all been there, you get to the office on a Tuesday and realise you've given half of your team the same day off without even realising!

With e-days you can set a rule around minimum staffing levels, for example if you have six staff and three is the minimum you can have in on any one day, you can make sure an employee holiday request for that day is automatically rejected if three people are already off.

 

Minimum notice period

The majority of companies also have a minimum period of time in which employees can submit requests, for example a month before the date of requested holiday.

It can of course be a nightmare to keep track of this when using a paper and spreadsheet system and also it can be difficult to implement if employees are allowed to plead their case face to face, leading to a lack of consistency and perhaps other employees feeling less favourably treated.
