Employees are now absent for an average of 6.6 days a year, compared to 7.6 days recorded in 2013.
The CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) has recently reported that employees are absent for a day less than they were a year ago.
This new average figure is highlighted as the “lowest level observed in the last five years”.
Previous trends show that absences typically increase when unemployment levels are high. Therefore, this lower absence figure appears to be particularly encouraging; as the UK economy is currently indicating strong employment growth.
In addition to this, the 2014 CIPD report shows that managing absence is becoming increasingly important, stating that “most organisations believe it is possible to reduce absence in their organisations” with the majority of organisations changing some aspect of their absence management strategy in the last 12 months.
